March 1, 2024 – SNB installed solar panels on the rooftops of both bank buildings and is now receiving power from this renewable energy system.  Although installation began in January, the process started more than a year ago when bank CEO Matt Ley met with GRNE Solar.  The company connected Ley to an expert in the field to help with the USDA, which had solar credits for businesses and individuals to help with the project.

“We did our due diligence here at the bank in early 2023 and found that our expected repayment would be 10 years; seven years if the USDA grants were approved (which happened in October 2023),” Ley said. Now that these solar panels are fully operational, they should provide 27% of the bank’s total electricity needs at both buildings.  The panels are expected to last 25 years.
